Monsoon Madness

Monsoon season is back, and it is the worst in 50 or 60 years, even by Thai standards. Basically, the majority of Thailand is flooded and so are Cambodia and Vietnam. Bangkok is at an all-high alert for next week, as the water is rushing down from the North or Thailand and the dams are full to capacity. Most Bangkok sits below sea level, so this is a huge problem. Over 250 people have already died, and the rains are not over yet.

Please pray for the Thai people who have lost their homes and crops. Also, please pray that the flooding will go down in Chiang Mai specifically, since my folks and Joel are coming on Thursday, and we are planning on spending some time there.

We have gotten used to the floods by now, as well as getting wet on the motorbike. The underpass that we take to school is frequently flooded, and we just simply lift up our legs like grasshoppers and drive through it like the Thais. Occasionally, it is too deep to go through. We know this when we see all the motorcycles lined up by the side of the road, waiting for their engines to dry out. At that point, we find another route.

On the way to church this morning, I saw someone fishing in what was a parking lot just last week. On the way home, we saw a man pulled over in water over a foot deep, giving his car a wash.

We enjoyed Canadian Thanksgiving at Wendy's house today with people from small group and church. I didn't know there was a Canadian Thanksgiving until this week, but there is, and it's at the beginning of October. So there you go.
